Daily sketchbook drawings of myself from a mirror are the basis of the self-portrait drawings. These small, quick studies are the result of observation and improvisation. Certain self-imposed limits in this ongoing practice result in accurate likenesses mixed with imperfections and distortions. The goal of the finished drawings is to introduce intention to a practice fueled entirely on chance and surprise. Final compositions are the result of experiments in layering multiple, separate drawings where visual elements are manipulated in a way that lets foreground and background take turns.

Like the self-portrait drawings, the collages are also a way to experiment with relationships of chance, surprise, and intention. Time limits are set and a handful of myriad collections of source material is selected, followed by an intuitive and impulsive process of juxtaposing image and material.
